When I speak Punjabi, they reply me in Urdu…….Why Why Why???

I was born at Lahore, Punjab where majority spoke Punjabi Language. Punjabi is an old language and some argue that its as old as were Greeks. I always ask myself why people start speaking Urdu Language with me when ever i reply back in Punjabi upon their Punjabi response. Isn’t that strange???…its more funny……hahaha

In my family, we never spoken Punjabi except Patyalvi/Samanvi language which my Grand Parents and even my mom used to speak, its a mixture of Punjabi & Urdu Language and really a beautiful one (My ancestors lived in Patyala, India before migration). But really, When ever i spoke Punjabi with any one whose basic language is Punjabi or know Punjabi Language well enough, they immediately start speaking Urdu in reply. Why????? May be my accent is not like a good Punjabi spoken or my personality or the Punjabi words i normally use…What ever but really this is a disaster for me as well as a funny case.  My current job does require me to use Punjabi when i use to visit different parts/cities of Punjab province and where we have to talk to local Administrative Authorities or with local inhabitants. But i m still not successful and same is happening, they start talking in Urdu.

I always confidently write Punjabi as language in my CV but now i doubt upon the response i receive from people. I think its not a fault of my personality because many well spoken Punjabi people wear western dress or its not a fault of my family who never spoken Punjabi in their life. Its a fault of my skills which i unable to make it as a competitive part along with other.
