STUDY CASE: WHY HAZRAT IMAM HUSSAIN A.S SACRIFICED HIS AND FAMILIES LIFE ?

History of sacrifice is deep enough since the creation of human being. Arm Forces sacrifices their life’s for the safety of country borders, relatives or friends sacrifices their body parts for the lives of their loved ones such as kidneys or lungs, Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) was ready and acted on the will of Allah Almighty to sacrifice his son Prophet Hazrat Ishmael (A.S), followers sacrifices their life’s for the defined objective and will of their leaders etc etc. But no sacrifice in this universe is of equivalent value of the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) and his family in Karbala, Iraq in 61 A.D. Great sacrifice by Hussain (A.S) defined true meaning of sacrifice for whole humanity in the desert of Karbala, defined how to live a life and how to fight for rights and against oppressor/dictator. Who was Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) ??? Beloved grandson of Holy Prophet PBUH, son of Hazrat Ali (A.S) and leader of all youth females in Paradise “Hazrat Bibi Fatima Zahra (S.A)”. Gigantic value of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) can be measured by studying sayings of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H);

Hussain is of myself and I am of Hussain. O’ Allah be pleased with those who please Hussain and hate those who hate Hussain” &  “Hassan and Hussain are masters of youth in Paradise” & “Whoever wishes to see such a person who lives on earth but whose dignity is honored by the Heaven dwellers, should see my grandson Hussain (A.S)

Hazrat Jaabir ibn Abdullah (R.A) states, I heard from Rasoolullah (S.A.W), “Whosoever wishes to see the leader of Paradise, he should look at Hussain ibn Ali (A.S).” Hazrat Umar Farooq (R.A) said, “Once, when I presented myself in the court of Rasoolullah (S.A.W) I saw that Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) was walking on his knees carrying Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) on his blessed back.”

Hazrat Khwaja Mu inu d-Din Chishti says (with Translation);

Shah ast Hussain, Badshah ast Hussain (Ruler is Hussain, Emperor is Hussain)
Deen ast Hussain, Deen Panah ast Hussain (Faith is Hussain , guardian of faith is Hussain)
Sardad na dad dast, dar dast-e-yazeed, (Offered his head and not the hand to Yazid)
Haqaa key binaey La ila ast Hussain (Indeed, Hussain is the foundation of La-ilah)

Well known leaders/intellectuals praised Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) like;

Mahatma Gandhi said;  “I learned from Hussein how to achieve victory while being oppressed.” He adds “My faith is that the progress of Islam does not depend on the use of sword by its believers, but the result of the supreme sacrifice of Hussain, the great saint.”

Charles Dickens wrote; “If Hussain fought to quench his worldly desires, then I do not understand why his sisters, wives and children accompanied him. It stands to reason therefore that he sacrificed purely for Islam.”

Edward Gibbon wrote; “In a distant age and climate the tragic scene of the death of Hussain will awaken the sympathy of the coldest reader.”

Thomas Carlyle said; “The best lesson which we get from the tragedy of Karbala is that Hussain and his companions were the rigid believers of God. They illustrated that numerical superiority does not count when it comes to truth and falsehood. The victory of Hussain despite his minority marvels me!”

Rabindranath Tagore wrote; “In order to keep alive justice and truth, instead of an army or weapons, success can be achieved by sacrificing lives, exactly what Imam Hussain (A.S) did.”

Edward G. Brown, a professor of Arabic and oriental studies at the University of Cambridge, said a few words on the Master of Martyrs Imam Hussain: “… a reminder of the blood-stained field of Karbala, where the grandson of the Apostle of God fell at length, tortured by thirst and surrounded by the bodies of his murdered kinsmen, has been at anytime since then sufficient to evoke, even in the most lukewarm and heedless, the deepest emotions, the most frantic grief, and an exaltation of spirit before which pain, danger and death shrink to unconsidered trifles,” reads page 227 of his book A Literary History of Persia

Dr. K. Sheldrake: “Of that gallant band, male and female knew that the enemy forces around were implacable, and were not only ready to fight, but to kill. Denied even water for the children, they remained parched under the burning sun and scorching sands, yet not one faltered for a moment. Hussain marched with his little company, not to glory, not to power of wealth, but to a supreme sacrifice, and every member bravely faced the greatest odds without flinching.”

Dr. Radha Krishnan (Indian scholar and philosopher) say “Though Imam Hussain gave his life years ago, but his indestructible soul rules the hearts of people even today.”

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indian Scholar describes the altruism of this great personality saying “Imam Hussein’s (A.S.) sacrifice is for all groups and communities, an example of the path of righteousness.”

Ignaz Goldziher (1850-1921), a Hungarian scholar writes “Karbala symbolizes the true face of struggle against injustice – non-violent resistance. Not taking life but sacrificing your life for Islam.”

Muhammad Iqbal, poet and philosopher of Pakistan says: “Imam Hussein uprooted despotism forever till the Day of Resurrection. He watered the dry garden of freedom with the surging wave of his blood, and indeed he awakened the sleeping Muslim nation.

Reynold Alleyne Nicholson(1868-1945),  Sir Thomas Adams Professor of Arabic at the University of Cambridge, writes, “Husain fell, pierced by an arrow, and his brave followers were cut down beside him to the last man. Muhammadan tradition, which with rare exceptions is uniformly hostile to the Umayyad dynasty, regards Husain as a martyr and Yazid as his murderer.” [A Literary History of the Arabs, Cambridge, 1930, p. 197]

Nelson Mandela said: “I has spent more than 20 years in prison, then on one night I decided to surrender by signing all the terms and conditions of government.BUT suddenly  I thought about Imam Hussain and Karbala movement and  Imam Hussain give me strenght to stand for right of freedom and liberation and I did”

Antoine Bara (Christian & Lebanese writer ) writes: If Hussain was one of us, we would have put up a flag and a minaret for him in every part of the earth and called the people to Christianity!* No battle in the modern and past history of mankind has earned more sympathy and admiration as well as
provided more lessons than the martyrdom of Husayn in the battle of Karbala.” (Husayn in Christian Ideology)

Sir William Muir (1819-1905), the Scottish scholar and statesman and held the post of Foreign Secretary to the Indian government as well as Lieutenant Governorof the Northwestern Provinces writes: “The tragedy of Karbala decided not only the fate of the caliphate, but of the Mohammedan kingdoms long after the Caliphate had waned and disappeared.” [Annals of the Early Caliphate, London, 1883, pp. 441-2]

Yazid was known for his devilish character and brutish conduct. He was known as the most licentious of men. Yazid came to power, he began acting in full accordance with his known character. He started interfering in the fundamentals of the faith and practised every vice and wickedness freely with the highest degree of impunity and yet held himself out as the successor of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), demanding allegiance to himself as the leading guide of the faith. Paying allegiance to Yazid was nothing short of acknowledging the devil as God. Many Human Beings consider Yazid as pious/virtuous & honorable man should read well known Saints of Allah, intellectuals, authors & historians words about him in their books such as;

Ibn Kathir himself writes in ‘al Bidayah’ Volume 8 page 1169 “Traditions inform us that Yazeed loved worldly vices, drink, listen to music, kept the company of boys with no facial hair [civil expression for paedophilia with boys, a form of homosexuality], played drums, kept dogs [civil expression for bestiality], making frogs, bears and monkeys fight. Every morning he intoxicated and bind monkeys to a horse saddle and make the horse run”.  “The worst of offences amongst the bad deeds of Yazeed ibn Mauwiya are drinking alcohol and engaging in some immoral acts”. 

Imam Ibn Atheer Jazri records the following testimony of Munzar bin Zubayr in ‘Tareekh al Kamil’ Volume 3 page 450: “He rewarded me with one hundred thousand, but this deed will not prevent me from telling you honestly about his status, by Allah he drinks alcohol, by Allah he is drunkard and even abandons prayer”.

In “Siyar A’lam Al-Nubala” Volume 4 pages 37, Dhahabi narrates: “Yazeed gave me alcohol to drink, I had never drunk alcohol like that before and I enquired where he had obtained its ingredients from’. Yazeed replied: ‘it is made of sweet pomegranate, Isfahan’s honey, Hawaz’s sugar, Taif’s grapes and Burdah’s water’. Ahmed bin Masama’ narrated: ‘Once Yazeed drank alcohol and started to dance, suddenly he fell down and his nostril began to bleed”. 

Hassan al-Basri in Tarikh Abul Fida, Volume 1 page 288: “Yazeed drank alcohol, wore silk and played the tambourine”.

The founder of Dar al Ulum Deoband, Muhammad Qasim Nanuthee stated in Qasim al Ulum:“Yazeed was a fasiq, he was irregular in Salat, committed Bidah and was Chief of the Nasibi”.

Allamah Samhodi in his book Wafa al-Wafa records the following from Imam Ibn Jauzi:

“After the incident of Karbala, Yazeed appointed his cousin Uthman bin Muhammad bin Abu Sufyan as Governor of Madina and asked him to secure Bayah (Bayah Means Acceptance as Caliph) his (Yazeed’s) Bayah from the people of Madina. He (Uthman) came to Madina and prepared a delegation and sent it to visit Yazeed so that it can give Bayah to Yazeed. Yazeed gave them gifts but despite this, when the delegation returned, it expressed negative things about Yazeed and said: ‘We have returned having visited a man who has no religion, he drinks alcohol, plays instruments, keeps the company of singers and dogs [civil word for bestiality], we declare that we have broken our allegiance to him…’ Abdullah bin Abi Umro bin Hafs Mukhzomi commented: ‘Although Yazeed gave me gifts and other benefits but the reality is this man is an enemy of Allah (swt) and a drunkard. I shall separate myself from him in the same way that I remove my turban from my head’ and having said that he removed his turban from his head and a person said: ‘I come out from his Bayah in the way that I come out from this shoe of mine’ then all people began to do this to the extent that there became a pile of turbans and shoes”

In Tabaqat “Abdullah bin Hanzala the Sahaba stated ‘By Allah we opposed Yazeed at the point when we feared that stones would reign down on us from the skies. He was a fasiq who copulated with his mother, sister and daughters, who drank alcohol and did not offer Salat”. 

Allamah Jalaluddin Suyuti writes in Tareekh ul Khulafa; “Waqidi has narrated from Abdullah bin Hinzala al Ghaseel: “We prepared to attack Yazeed at the time when we were sure that stones would come from sky because people were performing Nikah with their mothers, sisters and daughters. They were drinking alcohol and have left prayers”.

It is sad to note that many alive Human Beings consider the battle of Karbala as a battle between two kings for power. Have any one saw such type of battle where one side brought more than one hundred thousand prepared forces with all types of war ammunition and other brought children’s including infants, females, and elder people, with no ammunition except sword with some. Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) offered all available water to Yazid forces and on the other side Yazid forces prohibited water as well as food for Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) and his family for 3 days till the end of war. Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S who has been made as the master of male youth in paradise by Allah Almighty did not had the desire nor demand for any seat or power except the safety of religion Islam. In paradise, Allah will enter only those human beings who haven’t done any sin in their life’s and Allah has made Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S as master of youth in paradise is a clear evidence that Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S didn’t committed any sin in his life.

Not only same as well as many other Human Beings ask why Imam Hussain A.S took this step of moving towards Koofa, Iraq even many Sahaba of Prophet PBUH as well as and prominent figures advised him against his decision?. The factors behind Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S decision were;

  1. The people of Kufa getting tired of the tyrannic and satanic rule of Yazid, had written innumerable letters and sent emissaries to Imam Hussain (A.S) to come over and give them guidance in faith. Although Imam Hussain (A.S) knew the ultimate end of the invitations, he as the divinely chosen Imam as well as the responsible & representative of Prophet PBUH family could not refuse to give the guidance sought for.
  2. Responsibility for the protection of religious law and rituals.
  3. As an Imam/leader of time, belong to and the main persona of the Prophets PBUH family, also a companion (Shahba) of Last Prophet PBUH, as well as mirror of Islam, he has full knowledge of the Divine commandments, Islamic standards and had to protect religion.
  4. No other prominent Sahaba or leader was ready at that time and had courage to stand against Yazid as well stop him from doing illegal acts forbid-ended in Islamic religion.
  5. Yazid’s men were present in the form of Hajees in Makka with an intention to kill Hussain A.S and he knew that which is why decided to leave the holy place. Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S informed prominent figures present in Makka to perform Hajj along him that where ever he could move, Yazid had already ordered for his killing.

“If Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) didn’t had sacrificed his own, families and companion’s life at Karbala and if Hazrat Zainab (S.A………Sister of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S) wont had informed people that what have happened with the beloved family of Prophet (PBUH) at Karbala, neither people of that time rose (go up) against the Yazid nor we the Muslims been able to have & practised the right Islamic rules & regulations as was communicated by Prophet PBUH. Because Yazid was ready to make his own interpretations and his likely changes/alterations/modification in religion Islam. Which is why Prophet PBUH even after knowing about the incident of Karbala in his life (when angel Hazrat Jibraeel informed him & brought mud from Karbala surface & delivered to Prophet PBUH) didn’t prayed/requested Allah Almighty to stop what ever will going to happen at Karbala & afterwards because Prophet PBUH knew very well that only & only Hussain A.S could be able to safeguard religion Islam from all sides and no one else (no other persona) at that time”

Yazid demanded allegiance from the Holy Imam Hussain (A.S), who could have never agreed to it at any cost. The people fearing death and destruction at the hands of the tyrant had yielded to him out of fear. Imam Hussain (A.S) said that come whatever may, he would never yield to the devil in place of God and undo what his grandfather, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) had established. The refusal of the Holy Imam (A.S) to pay allegiance to this fiend, marked the start of the persecution of the Holy Imam Hussain (A.S). As a result he had retired to Medina where he led a secluded life. Even here he was not allowed to live in peace, and was forced to seek refuge in Mecca where also he was badly harassed, and Yazid plotted to murder him in the very precincts of the great sanctuary of Kaabah.

Some of  the factors behind killing Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) were;

  1. To make evident that no one is alive to threaten his (Yazid) power & emperor-ship.
  2. Yazid know that Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) could never agree as per his liking and the only way is to martyr him.
  3. To take revenge from the family of Prophet PBUH of his (Yazeed) family like Abu-Sufyan, the grandfather of Yazid & members of his tribe was killed by Hazrat Ali A.S (Father of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S)  during holy wars like Badar, Auhad, Khandaq

Ibn Asakir, writing on Yazeed, states then when Imam Hussain (A.S) head was brought before Yazeed, he recited the couplets of Ibn Zubayri the kaafir

“I wish my ancestors of Badr were here to see the severed head of the rebellious tribe (Muhammad’s tribe, Hashim)”

Written in Sharh Fiqh Akbar: ‘Following the murder of Hussain (A.S), Yazeed said;

“I avenged the killing of my kaafir relatives in Badr through killing the family of the Prophet.”

Qadhi Thanaullah wrote in Tafseer Mazhari [Urdu], Volume 8 page 268;

“Yazeed had martyred the grandson of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his companions, those companions were actually the members of the Prophet’s family. He disgraced the honor of the Prophet (PBUH) and then became proud of it and stated: ‘Today, vengeance for the day of Badr has been taken’. He was the one who brought the army to storm Madina and destroyed it during the incident of Hara, and he dishonored the mosque that had been founded on the basis of Taqwa and which has been referred to as one of the gardens of heaven. He installed positions in order to stone the house of Allah, he was the one who martyred Abdullah bin Zubair [ra] the grandson of the first caliph Abu Bakr [ra]. He did such indecent things that he finally denounced the religion of Allah and made alcohol Halal that had been made Haram by Allah”

Yazid’s own son “Mu’awiya bin Yazeed” (Same Name like of GrandFather) refused to accept the seat of Caliph after fathers’s (Yazid’s) death. In Sawaiq, page 134 about what the khalifa succeeding Yazeed said in his inaugural address as khalifa:

“When Yazeed’s son came to power he gave the speech: ‘Khilafat is from Allah (swt). My father Yazeed became the khalifah even though he was not deserving of khilafat. He fought the grandson of Rasulullah (s) [Husayn (as)] and is suffering in the grave on account of his sins.’ Mu’awiya bin Yazeed then proceeded to cry, ‘It is a terrible thing that we are fully aware of Yazeed’s bad deeds: he slaughtered the family of the Prophet (PBUH), he deemed alcohol halal, and set fire to the Ka’aba. I don’t need this khilafat, you deal with it”

We read in ‘au khanar al masalik’ that Shaykh al Hadith Mawlana Muhammad Zakaria stated:

‘The army that Yazeed had sent to Medina comprised of 60,000 horsemen and 15,000 foot soldiers. For three days they shed blood freely, 1000 women were raped and 700 from the Quraysh and Ansar were killed. Ten thousand women and children were made slaves. Muslim bin Uqba forced people to give bayya to Yazeed in such a manner that people were enslaved and Yazeed could sell them as he pleased, no Sahaba who were [with the Prophet (saws)] at Hudaibiya were spared.’  All the Badr Sahaba were killed in this battle”

The other factor behind incident of Karbala was the involvement and keen role/performance of each solider  in Yazid’s Army especially of higher Generals like Piser-e-Saad, Shimer (Maloon) in killing Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) was to get highest reward from Yazid in form of either money or to become a Governor of any State in the arab muslim world. They ALL were eager to have some best work in their pocket to show it up to the high ups and get the reward. Even many & almost all local inhabitants of Kufa were also part of the force when rulers announced that each and every single individual should participate in the battle against Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S (been called/announced as a rebel by the rulers without disclosing the true identity to the people) to get reward (cash/incentives) even if they use stone against the Hussain A.S.

The famous address of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S to the forces of Yazid in afternoon of 10th Moharram surely give you an idea/thought that the greed, lust for money, love for power & gifts, fear of punishment from Govt ruler had made every single soldier blind from brain & heart…

“Now then! Consider my family, and ponder as to who I am and then admonish yourselves. Then do you consider that killing me and plundering my sanctity and respect is lawful for you? Am I not the grandson of your Prophet PBUH and the son of his Vicegerent and cousin, who was the foremost in believing and the bearer of witness upon everything that the Prophet had brought from Allah? Was not Hamza, the chief of Martyrs, the uncle of my father? Was not Ja’far, who flies with two wings in Paradise, my Uncle? Did not the Tradition of the Prophet PBUH reach you in which he has said about me and my brother that both of us are the chiefs of the youth of Paradise? Then if you agree to what I say, and verily what I have said is nothing but the truth, then it is better, for by Allah, from the time I have realized that Allah dislikes the liars, I have never ever spoken a lie. Then if you do not believe to what I say, there are alive among you the companions of the Prophet PBUH. Go to them and ask them and they shall bear testimony to the truthfulness of my speech. Ask Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari, Abu Sa’eed Khudri, Sahl bin Sa’ad Sa’edi, Zayd bin Arqam and Anas bin Malik, they will tell you that they have heard this tradition from the Prophet of Allah regarding me and my brother. Is not this sufficient to refrain you from shedding my blood”? “Then if you doubt this, do you even doubt that I am the grandson of the Prophet of Allah (s.a.w.s.)? By Allah! There is no other grandson of the Prophet PBUH in the east or the west except myself from among yourselves or anyone else. Woe be to you! Have I killed anyone from among you whose revenge you desire? Or have I usurped the wealth of anyone or hurt anyone whose retribution you desire from me”?

Now just take a look into following address by Imam when he named those men of force of Yazid who wrote him letter to come to Kufa for help & lead….

When no one answered him, he called out in a loud voice,
“O Shabas bin Rab’ee! O Hajjar bin Abjar! O Qays bin Ash’as! O Yazeed bin Haris! Have you not written letters to me saying that the fruits had ripened and the surrounding earth had blossomed, and to come to a huge army prepared for me”?
They replied that they had not written any such letters. Imam said,”Glory be to Allah! Yes by Allah, you had written it.”
“O people! Then now if you do not like my arrival, then leave me so that I may go away to a place of refuge.”
Qays bin Ash’as said, “We do not know what you say. Then submit yourselves to your cousins (Bani Umayyah), they shall deal with you in a manner which you like.” Imam replied,
“By Allah! I shall not give my hands in yours like a base man, nor shall I flee away like a slave.”
Then he called out in a loud voice,
“O servants of Allah! ‘And verily, I take refuge with my Lord and your’s, lest you stone me (to death)'[58] and I take refuge with my Lord and your’s, from every arrogant, who does not believe in the day of reckoning.”

The above address by Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S give you a clear picture what they (Yazid & forces of Yazid) were upto…..

Once a businessman returned home at Kufa on the same day, was astonished to see that whole Kufa city is closed, no shop is opened, no person on street and upon asking his daughter that where is every one. The daughter replied that almost all have went to Karbala to participate in war against a rebel and get the reward. She asked his father that he should also go and get a emerald ring for her.  The businessman went to the Karbala and saw astonishing seen that a old age pious personality is sitting on the horse, extremely injured and where ever the personality moves/turns his horse towards the attacking forces, all soldiers of forces ran away from the spot with fear. The businessman went close to the Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) from behind with having a sword on his hand to attack. Suddenly, Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) turned his face towards him and asked “Abdullah! take my ring for your daughter. I am a son of Hazrat Fatimah (S.A) daughter of Prophet PBUH”.  He cursed Yazid forces that what they were doing with the family of Prophet PBUH.

In the history & as per Ayatullah Aqeel ul Gharvi, once when Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) was on the ground and extremely injured and no soldier was going close to him to cut his head due to extreme fear and lightning personality of  of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S. The general of Yazid’s Army cursed his soldiers and announced to go forward to get the reward, so a soldier went up near to Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) but suddenly find open eyes of Imam Hussain A.S and Hussain A.S said to him to go away and save yourself from the extreme punishment of Allah Almighty and you are not my killer as per the information by Prophet PBUH. The soldier was amazed to see such great humanism in Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) even at this critical time and Imam Hussain (A.S) was saving him from punishment of Allah Almighty. The Yazid Army’s soldier went directly to the official tent of Piser Ibne Saad (Commander of Yazid’s Army) to kill him but captured by other soldiers and later beheaded. This is an example about the personality figure and humane effects of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S).

The  single most  phenomenal  aspect of Karbala is undoubtedly the glorious personality and magical effect of  Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) that persuaded/turned and made many unknown and known personalities as a part of his force almost on the start of 10th Muharram. The famous names of his companions become part of his team almost near to the start of war were Hazrat Zuhair Ibne Qain  Al-Bajali (R.A) given his resentment tried to avoid Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) in every possible way but despite of his best efforts and after conversation/meeting with Imam (a.s.) though brief, left an indelible impression on his anguished soul. The second was Hazrat Hur ibn Yazid Alriahi A.S ( His son Ali bin Hur A.S, His brother Masub bin Yazid Alriahi & His slave Durraid (Urwa) A.S) as one of the high-ranking commanders of the army of Omar-ibn-e-Saad stopped Imam at Karbala but could not stop himself to be the part of Imam’s brave fighters.

Not only Muslims but also non Muslims given their life for Hussain and truth such as Hazrat Jhon  bin Huwai (A.S) was a former slave of Hazrat Abu Zar Ghafari (R.A) fought while reciting the poem [I am a soul willing to die for Allah, and have a sword thirsty of the blood of his enemies, Before I die I shall fight the enemies of Allah,

Muslims of world are still unaware of the value of sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S and his companions and when they will get awareness, surely regret the time of their life they have & will lost in not understanding & loving Hussain (A.S).

Some one asked Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abedeen A.S (son of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S) at Madina upon the return of family of Hussain A.S after 2 years of imprisonment by Yazid, how you can say that Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S won the battle of Karbala after loosing his and his 72 companions life. Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abedeen A.S replied to the person to wait for few minutes for the complete answer. After some minutes Adhan (muezzin or call for prayers from the mosque which happens five times a day) from Masjid-e-Nabvi PBUH started with the words “I testify that there is no God except Allah (Almighty), I testify that Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of God”. Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abedeen A.S said that Yazeed wanted to erase the name of Prophet PBUH from every thing in Islam including Adhaan and to include the name of his (Yazid) family members in it which was unacceptable neither to Allah Almighty nor to Hussain (A.S).  So, the name of Prophet PBUH in Adhaan is a evidence and declare that Hussain A.S has won the war.

Islam is still alive and in her true shape is because of Hussain (A.S) & his sister Hazrat Zainab (S.A). Unfortunately, many Muslims who don’t give any value to the family of PBUH as well as hate Hussain (A.S) and his followers with a believe that Karbala incident never happened should go to Karbala, Iraq on 10th Muharram (a day in Islamic calender of each year and when Hussain (A.S) was martyred) and

see/watch the soil (on which blood of Hussain A.S dropped) turns into a real blood even after 1400 years which is a miracle of Allah Almighty

and made it an evidence for these type of people (non believers) but as Allah says in Quran

that doors of heart of these people have been closed and have taken the power off from them  to understand/think till the final judgement day.
